Greetings from Ireland!
As readers should know by now my wife retired from the New Rochelle Board of Education effective June 30. We landed at Dublin Airport on July 4 with six fully loaded duffle bags and Zeke. It was quite an effort but we made it.
With all that preparing and purging and packing, my putting out a weekly newsletter of recommended reading fell by the wayside. Then, after we got an apartment (no small feat here due to a serious housing shortage) and sorted all the legal niceties of being resident in Ireland and figuring out the grocery store, I managed to get the latest variant of COVID which put me in bed for a while. I am still coughing.
While there is no Labor Day here, it seemed appropriate to consider summer “over” and get back to my routine starting with this newsletter.
I will not publish the live music or court reporting newsletter especially as I can not make it to court! I am not sure about the FOIL newsletter but its a low priority. What I am interested to do is write about differences between Ireland and the European Union and the United States, some good (food is better), some bad (higher energy costs), some stupid like Ireland only allows event tickets to be sold at face value.
I went back over the past 15 weeks and pulled out all the headlines I published, then organized them by subject (below). It would be far too time-consuming to hyper-link each one so you can skim the very long list and if you see something you want to read just copy/paste into your favorite search engine and find the article. I did not include Words in Edgewise articles on this Substack because you are a subscriber and already received them.
That’s it for now.
And for those wondering, we love being here and are quite happy in our new country.

I may or may not publish based on a tip or it may take a long while to get a story ready (often due to delays in FOIL requests). This can cause readers to wonder why a tip they submitted does not see the light of day immediately — or ever.
I am happy to explain my efforts to report out a reader tip but I often get anonymous emails.
