WOO HOO! Upgraded Comments Section for Words in Edgewise (robertcox.ie)
DUBLIN, IRELAND (December 19, 2024) — I am very happy to announce that Ghost.org has upgraded my comments section. I can now offer subscribers threaded replies and sorting options. This is a terrific improvement that will enhance the subscriber experience in a meaningful way.
I realize this may sound like I am a tech-nerd (I am) but I know this will greatly improve the subscriber experience so my happiness is for you, my lovely subscribers.
Comments in Ghost was a space for registered members to engage with me as the publisher. Upgraded Comments now allow subscribers to engage with each other in a way that was not previously possible in Ghost. This new capability will enable community building among Edgewise subscribers who may not agree on much of anything save two: (1) they support my journalism by paying for a subscription; and (2) they have their own views they want to share and discuss.
NOTE: if you are not a subscriber already, what are you waiting for?
Among the many benefits of a paid subscription has always been the ability to comment on my articles. The upgraded system will encourage subscribers to comment on other comments so paid subscribers can directly engage with each other.
This new upgrade to comments could not have come at a better time.
The New Rochelle City Council’s decision last week to fund a private investigation of me as well as bankroll threatened litigation against me accelerated the uptick in comments since I launched my Thimblerig series in October.
I love active comments so if you all are happy then I am happy.
What’s new?
Replies-to-replies → People can now reply directly to a reply (meta, I know), enabling clearer, deeper conversations and more engagement — all in a way that doesn’t result in the comments section zig-zagging down the page.
Ranking → hitting the ❤️ button is like an upvote to boost what you think other should see; it is added to a count of likes to measure the popularity of a comment.
Sorting → Now, there's an option to sort comments by best, newest, and oldest first — with best (measured by likes) as the default.
Reporting → Click the three dots to report spam or comments you want me to review for some reason.
Hidden and deleted comments → Comments without replies will now disappear entirely when hidden or deleted (by me as admin). No more annoying placeholders.
